Scarlet Lady has a proper split-personality year in 2026. January through April: short Caribbean hops from Miami. Late April: a transatlantic crossing to Europe. May through October: a full Mediterranean season covering Greece, Croatia, Turkey, Italy, France, and Spain. Mid-October: the crossing back to Miami. Then the Caribbean short sailings resume for winter. This is the first year Scarlet Lady spends a full five months in the Eastern Mediterranean, with Athens as the primary summer homeport. The ship overview covers what life on board is like. This guide focuses on where it goes and when.
Homeports
Miami, Florida (January to April, October to December): PortMiami’s Terminal V is Virgin’s dedicated facility, and the embarkation process is among the fastest in the industry. Miami International Airport is 20 minutes from the port by taxi, around 15 to 25 GBP ($20 to $30). Fort Lauderdale airport is 40 minutes away and often cheaper to fly into from Europe. For a pre-cruise night, a hotel near Brickell or South Beach puts you within easy reach of the port the next morning. Budget 60 to 120 GBP ($75 to $150) per night depending on season.
Barcelona, Spain (May and August): Scarlet Lady departs from Barcelona twice in 2026 - once as a transit port after the transatlantic (10 May), and again for two Western Med sailings in late July and early August. Barcelona’s cruise terminal is 30 to 40 minutes from El Prat airport by taxi, around 25 to 35 GBP ($30 to $45). Arrive a day early. The city deserves it, and jet lag from a transatlantic flight is real.
Athens/Piraeus, Greece (May to October): The primary summer homeport for 2026. Piraeus port is 40 minutes from Athens International Airport by taxi, around 35 to 50 GBP ($45 to $60), or reachable by Metro Line 1 for under 2 GBP. Stay in Plaka or Monastiraki the night before for easy port access and an evening walk to the Acropolis. This is a change from previous years when Barcelona was the main European base - in 2026, Athens takes the lead.
Civitavecchia/Rome, Italy (August to September): Scarlet Lady uses Rome’s port for two sailings in late August and early September. The port is 90 minutes from Rome Fiumicino airport by taxi, around 80 to 100 GBP ($100 to $125). Consider a train from Roma Termini to Civitavecchia (1 hour, under 10 GBP) if you are spending time in Rome first.
Region-by-Region Overview
Caribbean (January to April, October to December)
Scarlet Lady runs 4 and 5-night roundtrips from Miami, rotating through several itinerary themes. The Fire and Sunset Soirees is the 4-night sailing - Key West and Bimini Beach Club. The Riviera Maya is a 5-night sailing to Cozumel and Bimini. Dominican Daze covers Puerto Plata and Bimini. Grand Turk and Bimini Beach Club rounds out the rotation.
Every Caribbean sailing includes a stop at Virgin’s private Beach Club at Bimini. This is a proper beach club experience - included in the fare, with food, a pool, DJ, and a stretch of white sand. It is consistently the highlight of the short sailings.
Fares for Caribbean sailings start from around 475 GBP ($595) per person for a 4-night Insider cabin, rising to 700 to 900 GBP ($875 to $1,125) for a Sea Terrace. Peak holiday sailings (Christmas, New Year) command a significant premium - the 5-night New Year’s sailing on 30 December starts from 1,150 GBP ($1,445) per person.
Late October brings two themed sailings - a 6-night Eastern Caribbean Halloween sailing and a 5-night Scarlet’s Haunted Halloween Soiree. These draw a more party-oriented crowd than the standard rotations.
Eastern Mediterranean (May to October)
This is the centrepiece of Scarlet Lady’s 2026 season. From mid-May through late September, the ship operates 7, 10, and 11-night itineraries from Athens (Piraeus), with occasional sailings from Barcelona and Civitavecchia.
The Greek Island Glow is the signature 7-night itinerary - Athens, Santorini, Rhodes or Souda Bay (Crete), Bodrum (Turkey), Mykonos, and back to Athens. This runs repeatedly from May through September, with fares from around 1,275 GBP ($1,600) for a Sea View cabin in May, rising to 1,675 GBP ($2,095) in peak summer.
The Corfu, Dubrovnik and More sailing on 24 May adds Croatia and Montenegro to the mix - Kotor, Dubrovnik, Corfu, and Mykonos. At 1,280 GBP ($1,600) for a Sea View, this is excellent value for a 7-night Adriatic and Greek itinerary.
The Starry Nights in Greece and Croatia is the longer option at 10 nights - Athens, Santorini, Bodrum, Mykonos (with an overnight), Dubrovnik, Kotor, Corfu. This is the premium Eastern Med sailing and the one I would book first.
The Istanbul Delights and Santorini Dreams on 24 June is the standout new addition - 11 nights from Athens including Istanbul, Kusadasi (Ephesus), Mykonos, Souda Bay, Rhodes, and Santorini. If you have the time, this is the most ambitious itinerary on the schedule.
Western Mediterranean (July to August)
Two sailings cover the Western Med from Barcelona and Civitavecchia. The Rome, Florence, Corsica and Ibiza (24 July, 9 nights from Barcelona) calls at Palma de Mallorca, Cannes, Ajaccio in Corsica, and La Spezia for Florence and Pisa. The Spanish, French and Italian Classics (2 August, 8 nights from Barcelona) follows a similar route with Marseille replacing some stops.
A special 12-night Total Eclipse of the (Med) sailing on 10 August runs from Barcelona to Civitavecchia, timed for the August 2026 solar eclipse. This passes through Ibiza, Cannes, Ajaccio, La Spezia, Salerno, and Catania. Fares start from 1,290 GBP ($1,615) for an Insider.
Repositioning Cruises
Scarlet Lady makes two transatlantic crossings in 2026, and both are outstanding value.
Eastbound: Miami to Barcelona (26 April, 14 nights). The route stops at Las Palmas (Gran Canaria), Casablanca (Morocco), and Valencia before arriving in Barcelona. Eight consecutive sea days make up the Atlantic crossing. Fares start from around 1,100 GBP ($1,385) per person for an Insider - roughly 80 GBP ($100) per night. That is remarkable value for 14 nights of included specialty dining, WiFi, and entertainment.
I sailed a transatlantic repositioning on Scarlet Lady from Civitavecchia. We had multiple stops in Europe including Cartagena, Malaga, and the Azores before heading towards Florida. The itinerary was the best I have done for a transatlantic in terms of the number of port stops. Most repositioning cruises have far fewer, and this one felt like a proper sailing rather than just a long sea crossing.
Westbound: Barcelona to Miami (11 October, 14 nights). The reverse route with stops in Casablanca, Las Palmas (Gran Canaria), and Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Fares start from around 1,175 GBP ($1,470) for an Insider. This is the return leg that brings the ship back for the Caribbean winter season.
Both crossings are popular with experienced cruisers who value time at sea. The consecutive sea days let you work through every restaurant on board, attend every fitness class, and properly decompress. Solo travellers do particularly well on these sailings - the extended time creates stronger social bonds than a 4-night hop.
What to Book and What to Skip
The best itinerary: The 10-night Starry Nights in Greece and Croatia from Athens on 10 September. The weather is warm without the July-August intensity. Port crowds have thinned from peak summer. Fares drop from the June-August highs. The port lineup is the strongest single itinerary on the schedule - Santorini, Bodrum, Mykonos with an overnight stay, Dubrovnik, Kotor, and Corfu. Book by May for the best cabin selection.
The best value: The 14-night transatlantic from Miami to Barcelona on 26 April. Under 80 GBP per night for an Insider, with Casablanca and the Canary Islands as port stops. If you have two weeks and want to arrive in Europe by sea, this is the way to do it.
The sailing to skip: The 12-night Total Eclipse of the Med on 10 August. Peak-season pricing at 1,290+ GBP for an Insider, the hottest weather of the year, and the most crowded Mediterranean ports. The eclipse is a genuine draw, but the premium is steep. If you want a Western Med experience without the eclipse surcharge, the 8-night Spanish, French and Italian Classics on 2 August covers similar ports at a lower fare.
For first-timers: The 4-night Fire and Sunset Soirees from Miami. Key West and Bimini Beach Club, one sea day, and a Scarlet Night. Fares from 475 GBP make it the cheapest way to experience the ship. If you enjoy it, book a Med sailing for the next trip.
Shore Excursions Note
Virgin’s own shore excursions - called Shore Things - are well-organised but priced at a premium. For Mediterranean ports like Santorini, Dubrovnik, and Barcelona, independent excursions through Viator or GetYourGuide are typically 20-40% cheaper and offer more flexibility. In Caribbean ports, the ship’s shuttle to the town centre is usually free but runs only until 5pm, so plan your return time.
The exception is Bimini, where the included Beach Club experience is the obvious choice. The Pizza Place does takeaway slices you can carry ashore at most ports if you want to save on port-day lunch costs.
